There is a great verse recorded in the Gospel of John where Jesus says these words: “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
I have been thinking a lot lately about what it looks like to have the truth set me free. Abiding in God's Word means I am resting in it, reading it, memorizing it, talking with others about it and living it out in my daily life. I am free to obey what God's word says to do. When I read God's word I am reminded about what is true about His character. He is good. He is able. He is faithful. He is powerful. He is slow to anger and abounding in love. He is always with me. When I read what God says about me; that I am His child, I am loved, I am forgiven, I am fearfully and wonderfully made, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, that he calls me friend, then I am reminded that I am free. I am free of trying to measure up to others expectations. I am free to forgive others. I am free to love others because I am loved by the King of Kings. I am free from worry because I can trust God's got this! I am free to be filled with JOY because I know my Redeemer Lives.
There is a song by the Newsboys called "I am Free" that we sing sometimes at our church, check out the lyrics below, better yet, play it on youtube, turn up the volume, dance and sing! After all... You Are Free!
